Breaking: Nancy Pelosi Announces Retirement from Leadership
And just like that, it’s over.
Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House, has announced to her colleagues that she will no longer “seek re-election to Democratic leadership.”

Pelosi’s announcement comes on the heels of the GOP re-taking the House majority following the Nov. 8 midterm elections.
To be clear, Pelosi has only indicated that she is retiring from leadership responsibilities, and she made clear that she would not be resigning from Congress.

This move has long been percolating, but Pelosi also indicated that the recent attack on her husband played a role in recalculating her priorities.
Paul Pelosi, 82, was allegedly attacked with a hammer in his own residence. While some of the details pertaining to the incident have largely been kept under wraps, the situation appears to have been stressful enough to calculate into Nancy’s decision to step down.
Another factor in Pelosi’s decision to step down could very well be the already rising political temperature post-midterms.
Former President Donald Trump just recently announced that he will be running for president again in 2024, and that might be a bit much for Pelosi to deal with.
She is, after all, 82-years old. For anyone that likes to harp on President Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities, Pelosi is a full two years older than him, and battling a potential future president at every turn can’t possible sound that appealing.
Not only that, but it’s been made abundantly clear that Trump is not a fan of Pelosi — calling her “an animal” recently.
While Trump, and most Republicans, probably won’t shed too many tears about Pelosi stepping down, that didn’t stop the usual suspects from singing Pelosi’s praises:

When I think of Nancy Pelosi, I think of dignity.
History will note her as the most consequential Speaker of the House of Representatives in history – she is first, last, and always for the people. America owes her a debt of gratitude for her service, patriotism, and dignity. pic.twitter.com/U2xvEVC1E5

Interestingly, Joe Biden reportedly asked Pelosi to serve another term following the surprising midterm results — where Democrats largely fared better than anybody was anticipating.
